**

We know that we ought to be thankful for the good things and use the not so great things to teach us to count our blessings.

touching-hands

One of the greatest blessing in our lives is to love and know love.

It is far too easy to camouflage the very people we love that make life worthwhile, with the business and busyness of life.

Tis the Season-
It’s Christmas, it’s a miracle, it’s love, it’s a gift –
To fall in love is a precious gift, a miracle.

Would you like to fall in love all over again?

To fall in love all over again brings tears to my heart and rain to my eyes.

Would you like to fall in love again this Christmas season?

To look into the eyes of creator God afresh and see the miracles of his love for you. To once again have hope because of the Man whose birth we celebrate on Christmas Day. To fall in love with the creator not just his creation.

To look into the eyes of your spouse as once you did and caused that head over heels butterfly feeling. The commitment in your heart of your youth to never take him/her for granted.

As a youth or young adult in love it is so natural to want to explore, to touch, to feel that warm body of another human being. To immerse in that sensual electrifying experience. The desire to be in love came so naturally; could that happen again?

I believe that one of the biggest reasons that people are miserable especially at Christmas is because they refuse to let go of the hurts, disappointment, and offenses of others. They justify their pain and keep themselves and others locked in a prison of unforgiveness. Believe me It isn’t easy making the choice to forgive But living with unforgiveness can be deadly! There is a great need to forgive.

A need to rekindle, refresh, fan the flame of love.

To make a date every day. Re-establish connection with your life-companion the forever friendship. There’s a good man in there- there’s a good woman in there.
In sickness and in health. To be captivated once again.

To look into the eyes of your now grown child/ren and remember the naivety of that new mom feeling. To remember your heart swell with love for the little one. The smell, the touch of his/her silky newborn skin of this little human who needs you every second of every day. The promise you made to nurture and keep them safe all wrapped in the warmth of your love. To disrespect or allow harm near your child would be unthinkable. Remember – you would never let anyone or anything interfere with that sweet baby smile. Honor your children.

As we fall in love with God, spouse and child remember those who suffer. For those who are ill, forgotten, lonely; for those who are homeless and are huddled on dark winter nights in the unseen corners of cities all over the world.

Don’t let this season be the greatest regret of your life.
Let it be the greatest love’s rebirth of your Existence. Let it bring you back to life.
To feel, to touch, to hug, to forgive, to kiss, to recommit, bringing joy thought lost.

No it doesn’t have to be a fairy tale but true life.

Thanks for reading my blog!

Merry Christmas

heart heavy
thoughts of pain and tragedy
could not see while viewing
burden of yesteryear
all i could carry
ways and means to continue thus
only misery
darkness
laborious journey
almost to eternity
weary to marrow of my bones
threatening twist
to face malignant demons
each tentacle
eclipsed light, love, happiness
to lift the shrouded darkness
major transform turn around
face haunting past
examine stepping stones
understand let it go
in front, many heaps of ashes lay
pierced my heart to see
the ashes and debris of the past
collective heartbreak
feel dreams, wishes, desires
search for love, slip
through my fingers
burned in ashes lay
to be swept away
as dust
trail laden stench
daunting debris
sat in it’s wake
puddle of despair de’bauchery
unfixable mess
i heard shrieks and screams
god help me see beyond
thickening black
brilliant electrical illuminacity
in twinkling twinning
of love and enlightenment
clarity of thought
transfixed in joy
alien to me
path ahead darkness still
one last look of the past
deep breath
facing new path in faith
suddenly an ambient light
gentle cascade
looking up tril-lions
of wonder and might
shimmering across the sky
to brighten my path
shackels dissipate
ready to move on
lifting my hands t’ward

Thanks for reading one of my older poems.

The truth so help me God.

Surreal God moment that I did not orchestrate.
It was a compulsion to write, yes it was cathartic and yes it changed my life forever.

I don’t do something of this magnitude (writing my life story exposing secrets of my heart) in a rash way.
I thought, prayed, weighed it time and again. But there was a moment of no return; Through tears and sobs and soul’s agony as the words began to pour out.

60 days to write and 10 years in draft format then to the publisher. All our life savings and what seem to be a thousand conversations, legalities, explanations, edits and approvals.

I remember the day my husband and i went to the publisher – my hubby waited in the car as I went inside. It was like a spiritual walk. I was taken to the conference room and actually feeling a little anxious. The lady in charge of my book entered the room and after a few formalities gave me the first copy. Holding it close meant I was holding my whole life and others close to my heart. I have to admit it was a huge surreal moment.

The copy of the book was a result of a type of birth that should not be trifled with but looked at, touched, felt and cherished, examined, loved even, but then again that’s an author’s viewpoint.

At first I thought family and friends supported ME and FEET FIRST.
It was false. Many lacked courage to read it. Many felt by reading somehow betrayed my mother.

Yes I faced disappointment.
The question was asked of me: “why you? Why did you have to write it, there are thousands of books written about abuse?”

Beverley Hoyles CVR resize very small

Truth doesn’t always give the response you expect.
Truth doesn’t mean you don’t love.
In fact courage to speak truth for me was the greatest love.

I found that in speaking truth brought an array of disappointments.

Some read the book in critical condescending ways with a criticism to find ways to destroy my credibility. Others got bits and pieces from the book via another’s negative opinion thereby tarnishing what would have been something special for them.

I have tried to overlook that part of the disappointment for many reasons.

Then there were numerous people via the Internet, amazon, book signings came a multitude of comments, emails, thank you’s and calls. Simply an unexpected humbling experience.

Do I give up because some would not support my efforts?
No!
I am in the draft process of the manual that would accompany Feet First.

It has been mind-boggling when I think of the people who have contributed to the manual.

I am humbled AND honored by the path to each one of them.

I know I may not have a ‘come over for tea on Saturday and we’ll chat’ type relationship but my life has been enriched by them, their values, blogs, books, heart.

I took 9 months off; a type of sabbatical from the manual because I felt physically drained but I’m ready to get cracking again toward its completion.

I pray someday that all of my family would have the courage to read my book Feet First.

I do hope many more will  read Feet First on sale at amazon or available from our office. It’s okay you can love it or hate it; your choice.

It’s silly to say I wrote a book for no one to read it. I want people to read it and be blessed or the very least, a book to read.

Childhood abuse can cast a long shadow over your life influencing your emotional state, psychological state, physical state, health and how you relate to others. I believe I learned that while writing the book as the author of my life story and so much more as I am writing this second book.

I guess that gives clarity of why I wrote Feet First. I would like to lighten the shadow on the lives of my siblings, my family, my friends, my world. To personally make a positive impact on anyone that would allow my words to enter their world. To expose abuse for what it is and be willing to warn, to educate.

Patty Rase Hopson said that Abuse changes your life…Fight Back and change the life of your abusers by Breaking Your Silence on Abuse!

I believe this initial step puts the control of your life back into your hands and a necessary step toward healing and recovery.  I also sincerely believe it will help thousands in peril at this very moment.

For not only does sound reason direct us to refuse the guidance of those who do or teach anything wrong, but it is by all means vital for the lover of truth, regardless of the threat of death, to choose to do and say what is right even before saving his own life. A.W. Tozer

Truth has no special time of its own. Its hour is now – always.   Albert Schweitzer

Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.”

First may I say I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Also here in Canada we just celebrated Mother`s Day.  I hope you took time to let someone know how special they are whether it is a mother by blood or choice.

To change the subject I love some of the advice nuggets that I read from Jim Rohn.  Today I would like to honor some of his work in a very simple format.

Three Keys to Greatness by Jim Rohn

Awhile back, I went into the studio and created a 56-minute video for teenagers called “Three Keys to Greatness.”  Although my focus was for teenagers, the principles I shared certainly apply to adults as well.

Recently I was asked to list these three things using one to two sentences for each.  Now for your benefit here they are again.

1.  Setting Goals.  I call it the view of the future.  Most people, including kids, will pay the price if they can see the promise of the future.  So we need to help our kids see a well-defined future, so they will be motivated to pay the price today to attain the rewards of tomorrow.  Goals help them do this.

2.  Personal Development.  Simply making consistent investments in our self-education and knowledge banks pays major dividends throughout our lives.  I suggest having a minimum amount of time set aside for reading books, listening to CDs, attending seminars, keeping a journal and spending time with other successful people.  Charlie “Tremendous” Jones says you will be in five years the sum total of the books you read and the people you are around.

3. Financial Planning.  I call it the 73/30.  After receiving your paycheck or paying yourself, simply setting aside 10% for saving, 10% for investing, and 10% for giving, over time this will guarantee financial independence for a teenager.

IF a young person, or for that matter an adult, focused on doing these three simple things over a long period of time I believe they will be assured success!

Memories

Let’s shape our memories now for the future.  Let’s give our kids, grandkids, nephews, nieces, good memories to draw from-From this second forward.

Time can forget some memories, but there are some memories which can make us forget time and those memories make life sweeter.

A smile happens in a flash, but its memory can last a lifetime.

Located in the province of Newfoundland, Grand Lake is a natural lake dammed for hydroelectric power early in the last century. The expanded lake now covers about 132,000 acres along the Humber River. Set amid the craggy heights of the eastern fringe of the Appalachian Mountains, the area around Grand Lake has evolved into a wide swath of Provincial lands used in the past for logging and mining. When the local paper milling company dammed the outlet of the existing Grand Lake in 1925 to produce power for the mills, the water level was raised over 100 feet, drowning the abandoned coal mines and a portion of the Humber Valley over sixty miles long. The resulting lake is nearly 1000 feet deep in spots, the deepest lake in Newfoundland. The large lake also holds the largest island in Canada, Glover Island.

It is here that the Humber Canal offers a shorter water route to Deer Lake and was the site of the paper mill that originally dammed Grand Lake. The paper mill has changed hands several times over the years, as has control of the dam and power generating units. The Deer Lake Power Company now distributes the hydro-power to several small communities in the area and to the main power grid. The old paper mill plant whistle sill sounds daily during the week and on Saturdays, more as an historical tradition than as a call to work. Deer Lake is one of the few remaining towns where parents still tell their children to ‘be home when the whistle blows!’

http://www.lakelubbers.com/grand-lake-2202/

I remember in my hometown of Deer Lake we had a high school field trip to the powerhouse. It was amazing to see the workings of the big turbines.  On that day as usual the whistle was to blow at 12 noon;  I got to press the button to set the town whistle/siren to blow.  That was the day I had lime pop for the first time and the first time I had a donut.  For some reason Lime drink/pop and donut together tastes fantastic.

newfoundland-geomorphology

I don’t have all good memories but I have learned to make sure these terrible memories don’t run my life.

“We cannot change our memories, but we can change their meaning and the power they have over us”  David Seamands

We all tend to be restricted by our memories. Allow the benefits of meditation  to change you from within, by the renewing of your mind- attitude and perceptions.

When you live life and you are living the experience, you tend not to appreciate them as you are living them. It’s only when you look back and realize how special they were.

THE ABILITY TO REMEMBER IS A BLESSING FROM GOD. IN A FLASH YOU CAN BE FISHING WITH YOUR GRANDFATHER. SWIMMING AT YOUR FAVORITE LAKE. HITTING THE GAME WINNING HOME RUN IN HIGH SCHOOL. TIME CANNOT ROB YOU OF MEMORIES UNLESS THEY BECOME UNIMPORTANT AND YOU CHOSE TO FORGET THEM.

REMEMBER THE DAYS OF OLD, CONSIDER THE GENERATIONS LONG PASTED.

WE HAVE A TENDENCY TO FORGET WHAT GOD HAS DONE FOR US. WE CENTER IN ON THE NEGATIVES AND LET SLIP THROUGH OUR MINDS ALL THE TIMES THAT GOD WAS THERE FOR US.

In spite of some rotten pasts there are things we can do as seen in this quote:

I used to teach in an abused children’s home. I told the kids, “You all have a manure pile of memories. Nothing you can do about that. Now you can drown in the stink or turn it into compost and grow a garden. I wouldn’t be as good a teacher to you if I didn’t know what you’re going through. That way, I make my memories do good instead of letting them eat me. I’m like Herbie from Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer. I pulled my Bumble’s teeth. He’s still big and scary but he can’t bite me anymore.”

Meditation is a Must!

With the weight of society and intensity of life we can get bogged down.

Need a breather? Need clarity?

I find I need to take time to meditate.  Meditate on things that are good and encouraging.  Also words that would spur me on to live a better life.

What do you do?

Our family has been riddled with sickness and it can cause us to tire. Sometimes this journey causes me to desire a spiritual cleansing, a recharge.

Where are the answers, clarity for me? It is the place and time with the creator for me.

This time causes faith to rise once again in my heart.

Personally time with the creator builds up my courage and stimulates my living.

It in turn gives me everything I need to take on life.

Again personally I’m more free to face the day.  I feel a celebration in meditation. Whatever I have to face that day or week I am reminded that it’s not what will happen but my response to circumstances is critical.

My quiet time with the creator God elevates my mood my thoughts my whole person.

This quiet time is liberating because I sense the creator has given me potential, creativity and abilities yet to be discovered..

Remember the movie “The Lion King” – well who doesn’t.

I love the following scene.
Mufasa: Look, Simba. Everything the light touches is our kingdom.
Young Simba: Wow.
Mufasa: A king’s time as ruler rises and falls like the sun. One day, Simba, the sun will set on my time here, and will rise with you as the new king.
Young Simba: And this’ll all be mine?
Mufasa: Everything.
Young Simba: Everything the light touches…

Wow I thought everything the light touches is for me to enjoy and explore.  Life isn’t too bad at all. One day when the sun sets on my time here; my earthly life over, I am sure there will be another life waiting.

My sincere desire and prayer that my children and my children’s children will rise to the occasion now and at my passing to make this earth a better place.  Reign well.

We live, in fact, in a world starved for solitude, silence, and private: and therefore starved for meditation and true friendship.  C.S. Lewis

“Only in a world where faith is difficult can faith exist.”
Lee Strobel

“Faith is only as good as the one in whom it’s invested.”
Lee Strobel

“In the inner stillness where meditation leads, the Spirit secretly anoints the soul and heals our deepest wounds.” – St. John of the Cross

“I will meditate on your precepts, and consider your ways.”

Don’t Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit
Rest if you must but Don’t You Quit!

Life is strange with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up through the pace seems slow
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor’s cup
And he learned too late when the night came down
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit
It’s when things seem the worst
That You Mustn’t Quit!

Impossibilities!

This is the cover of my book with slight changes to adapt to this blog post!

feet first and impossibilities

Impossibilities!

There comes a time in the life of every person when they are faced with a seemingly impossible situation.

How do we conduct ourselves during these times?

Why does God allow them?

Can we really prepare for them?
How will we respond?

I do believe in the creator [my choice] and often I have to say there is only one thing to do.

Meet the creator in meditation and prayer and walk in faith.

Why would we become discouraged?

Why would my heart become troubled?

What happens when fear and faith collide?

When we are faced with impossibilities; words begin forming in our minds such as give up, fear, loss, abandon, hopeless, no direction but down. Sounds so familiar doesn’t it?

To accept your lot in life and just make the best of it is what society teaches.

But in Faith I want to alter my/your reasoning concerning the difficult occurrences in each of our lives.

In many respects adversities turn into an opportunity of blessing. I’m just an ordinary person facing the impossibilities BUT believing in the possibilities.

No, the day may not transpire as I had planned BUT there are impossibilities to overcome.

I purpose in my heart to bring honor to God to man and myself…I know I may fail at times but as-God-as-my-witness I SHALL pick myself up and see the OPPORTUNITIES the POSSIBILITIES outweigh the impossibilities.

WHY?

Because the more time I spend with the creator in  meditation and respect the more I gain in faith.

Impossible

Are you Positive or Negative?
heart 13 p_edited b_edited-1

Check your spirit’s temperature.

  • Negative thoughts are caused by the inner debate about self-esteem, security, money, people, life in general
  • Negative feelings can go from anger, frustration, irritability, to even anxiety and depression
  • Negativity breeds more negativity and goes on a witch hunt for more to collect to the end of your imprisonment
  • Constant hammering thoughts about others and yourself day by day WILL take its toll and you could lose yourself
  • It’s a waste of time- not one single benefit of thinking negatively – SO THINK POSITIVE
  • Be aware of your thoughts and think why
  • Make a list of things about yourself to make changes; go on you can do it
  • Find a path to forgiveness of the past or it will kill your present
  • Negativity produces toxic waste in our emotions, body, psyche and spirit
  • Stop and consider your thoughts and stop the negativity. Practice making that change.
  •  Surround yourself with positive people and positive situations.
  • You don’t have to be negative because someone else is living a negative vibe.
  • Watch your perspective/attitude
  • Be kind
  • Look for the Positive
  • Go for a walk or run to release the brain chemicals to enhance an overall good feeling
  • Meditate
  • Relax
  • Have a gratitude Spirit
  • Banish Self Pity
  • You deserve the best life; see what great qualities you have and nurture them

I will go so far as to say that negativity and negative thoughts can be  dangerous to your health!

U is for Upside Down Cake and Understanding!

Traditionally An upside-down cake is a cake that is baked in a single pan, then turned over and eaten upside-down. Usually chopped fruits—such as apples, pineapples or cherries—and a butter and sugar topping are placed on the bottom of the pan before the batter is poured in, so that they form a decorative topping once the cake is inverted.

Rhubarb Upside Down Cake

The caramelized corners are the best part of this moist and tangy cake, which showcases spring-fresh rhubarb.

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Baking Time: 50 minutes
Servings: 9

Ingredients:

Base:

  • 2 tbsp (25 mL) butter
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) packed brown sugar

Cake:

  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (175 mL) granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla
  • 1-1/2 cups (375 mL) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp (10 mL) baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp (1 mL) salt
  • 1/8 tsp (0.5 mL) nutmeg
  • 1 cup (250 mL) sour cream or plain yogurt
Preparation:

Base: In 8 inch (2 L) square non-aluminium baking dish, heat butter in 350°F (180°C) oven for about 5 minutes or until melted. Sprinkle brown sugar and then rhubarb evenly in dish; set aside.

Cake: In bowl, cream together butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla. Stir together flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Stir into creamed mixture alternately with sour cream, making three additions of each.

Spread batter over rhubarb. Bake in 350°F (180°C) oven for 45 to 50 minutes or until top springs back when lightly pressed. Let cool on rack for 15 minutes. Run knife around edge of pan; invert cake onto serving plate. Serve warm or at room temperature.

YUM YUM

The Alphabet is coming to a close and I had to talk about a well liked desert.  I hope you understand.

That’s it ‘Understand’.  Yeah

Understand the word is actually difficult to explain and easier to understand. You know what I mean.

Understand means to perceive and comprehend the nature and significance of; grasp.

  • To know thoroughly by close contact or long experience with
  • To perceive the significance of
  • To grasp or comprehend the meaning intended or expressed by (another)
  • To comprehend the language, sounds, form, or symbols of
  • To know and be tolerant or sympathetic toward
  • To learn indirectly, as by hearsay
  • To infer
  • To accept (something) as an agreed fact
  • To supply or add (words or a meaning, for example) mentally
  • To have understanding, knowledge, or comprehension
  • To have sympathy or tolerance
  • To learn something indirectly or secondhand; gather

During experiments aboard the space shuttle “Columbia,” scientists discovered that there are twenty-six lakes underneath the Sahara desert. It’s heartrending to think of the people who are starving and dying of thirst because these hidden resources have not yet been tapped.

Maybe there are untapped gifts in each of us.

So How can WE be more Understanding?’

  • Like in a lot of things; Listen
  • Put yourself in the other’s shoes
  • Draw on your own experience and deep waters of grief, hurt, pain and change and impart that tenderness like a gentle lullaby of peace
  • Keep to your values and let them be building blocks
  • Use wisdom
  • Remember the downside of humanity selfishness, forgetfulness, loneliness, negativity
  • Promote positivity
  • Be compassionate
  • The more you understand the less fearful you will become

How wonderful it is to have to try to understand or actually understand especially during your times of diffuclty and trial.  Never underestimate your value when understanding another person.

UNDERSTAND

Some people never understand, no matter how many times you explain it.

How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver

“Whenever you feel like criticizing any one…just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.” F. Scott Fitzgerald

“We must learn to regard people less in the light of what they do or omit to do, and more in the light of what they suffer.”  Dietrich Bonhoeffer

There are deterrents to Understanding in Relationships:

  • Neglect in a Relationship
  • Not Dealing with Conflicts
  • Loss of Compassion
  • Withdrawing

Of course the opposite would be:

  • Taking Time Together
  • Nurture the positive experiences
  • Work on any damage or problems
  • Work on a sense of humor
  • Have high standards in a relationship
  • Be in the moment
  • Be supportive in times of difficulty

Q is for Quiche and Quirky.

Quiche (/ˈkʃ/ KEESH) is a savory, open-faced pastry crust dish with a filling of savory custard with cheese, meat, fish or vegetables.  Quiche has a pastry crust and a filling of eggs and milk or cream which, when baked, become a custard.

quiche-lorraine

My favorite is Quiche Lorraine and I like the added twist of spinach that is not in the recipe.

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/quiche-lorraine-i/

Quiche Julia Child way.

http://www.boston.com/lifestyle/food/2012/08/21/recipe-for-quiche-lorraine/rWKZiFtm9PGjAvdOxdb1BL/story.html

Now don’t get to excited Quiche is not just for women.  It is not a sexist dish. Quiche is a quirky type dish that has lots of charm and nutrition.

That’s an unusual trait: Quirky. Characterized by peculiar or unexpected traits: “quirky charm”.

We can’t be perfect although we strive to be our best self. However what makes a person SO interesting is the quirky characteristic.

Quirkiness definitely first and foremost has these 6 qualities:

  • Curiosity about world
  • Find positive in things
  • Fully engaged in the moment
  • Gracious
  • Passion for LIfe

These 6 above then kick starts into the following:

Believe me it takes no strength to be a hater – real strength is pushing beyond your past, present, the flaws, and letting stuff go and embrace the positive more important virtues. In spite of all the virtues we should strive for, you don’t have to be a cookie cutter  person you can have your own quirky ways to display love, kindness and optimism.

To be quirky means a more original, to think out of the box some would say a little off the wall. Now don’t go overboard and become so freakish people will run when you walk down the street.

I think quirky means a uniqueness.  Be unique in representing the creator. Be unique in the way you love. Be unique in your creativity.  Be unique in a way you make your imprint on this planet.

It’s the humor and tenderness combined.  It’s the sensitivity and stalwart combined.

A truly quirky person does not, I repeat does not have to fall in line with current commercials and advertisements and society’s expectation of what is beautiful in body image, size or color schemes.  Not focused on mass media and trends not changing to please everyone except the creator. To know yourself well. To follow true to excelling in vitreous living.

Of course quirkiness has to allow for individual daily ways of living or rituals, likes and dislikes.
