Day 15  of my recent 30 Day Thankfulness Challenge; I am thankful for a fire in a fireplace.      😀

I love sitting in front of a fireplace. I had the privilege to sit in front of a roaring fire every night for two years; No Tv, sometimes a book and a fire. I miss it.  It wasn’t too long when I began to daydream or get sleepy when sitting around a flickering fire.

Maybe in the scientific sense; it’s the slow flicker rate of the firelight so that when you gaze into a flickering fire, your brain activity tends to slow. Probably that’s why you find yourself relaxing or even yawning around a kindling camp fire or a cozy fireplace.

Fire warms us giving us the heat we need but the flames dance away the evening that provide a time to relax.

Day 15 fire_in_fireplace

Many a evening entranced by the flames I would watch the flame and humorously enjoy  the many changing colors and dancing movements. Crackle and sizzle and the flicker not just entertainment but it’s an invitation to draw close and stay close like a warm hug.

Time in front of a fire is never wasted.  How can time pondering, meditating, thinking, dreaming, planning and appreciating life be a waste of time.  Possibly it is sitting in front of the flame I realized that it is a waste of energy to focus on what I am missing, something I don’t have.  A better attitude, a knowledge that one key to happiness is to take pleasure in what I actually have.  I truly appreciate life!

What is it about a fire at Christmas congers Christmas magic, youltide, reminiscing about Christmas past, evokes conversation of  Dickens’s day and ‘The Christmas Carol’ and centuries long gone. A time to remember what Christmas really means for me.

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the LORD Almighty
will accomplish this. – Isaiah 9:6-7

Pertinent Quotes:

Is any pleasure on earth as great as a circle of friends by a fire?  C.S. Lewis

Day 11  of my 30 Day Thankfulness Challenge; I am thankful for Friends. 😀

Real friends stay after seeing your weakness, mistakes, successes, achievements.  They stay near when your world crumbles beneath your feet.  Giving you breathing room to grieve then steps in at the right time to give more comforting hugs. They share in your joys and is the loudest clapper.

A friend loves at all times.  They aren’t afraid to say; No that’s not right now smarten up or that was fabulous.  Friends by their support and commitment like the title of the song ” you raise me up to more than I can be”.

I had 3 really close friends when I was a teen though the provinces and time has kept us from being within visiting opportunities I still value their friendship.  I love them dearly.

Even in these past few years I have gained friends in the oddest of ways including Facebook.  Yes I realize we can’t get to know each other in the perfect sense but we have a camaraderie at its best via internet, Skype and chat.  They have stepped in at a very poignant moment to encourage me.

Since 2002 I have been on a clear path of going forward but circumstance foundered somewhat just recently but some would dare to hold out their hand to comfort, encourage and uplift.

When you have friends you have the ultimate.

Friends often come via creation. Animals and birds have a tendency to stay close.  For that I am grateful.

OF course my husband is my best friend and he is the most committed of friends.  I thank God for him.

My children have been a blessing as friends as well and for that I am eternally grateful.

When you have friends it feels like home.

Pertinent Quotes:

Proverbs 27:9 “The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense.”

“Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art… It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.” ~ C.S Lewis

“Is any pleasure on earth as great as a circle of Christian friends by a good fire?” ~ C.S Lewis

“The next best thing to being wise oneself is to live in a circle of those who are.” ~ C.S Lewis

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

Good friends are like Stars, you don’t always see them, but you know they are always there.

Day 5 of my previous 30 Days of Thankfulness Challenge.

I am thankful for #3 daughter  [baby of the family] well loved often called pooh bear.  Very petite in stature/physically but everything else is beautifully large.

She is a lot like her brother with many integral, athletic [volleyball & golf] qualities.  She often doesn’t show her inner self but I’m her mom and they are quite clear.

#3 daughter has unconditional love to all without prejudice. Has a strength that often people don’t see.

Genius for design and decoration. Talented and the greatest mommy. Works way too hard at her day job and indispensable I am sure to her boss.

Within her lay the power to be a leader and the greatest example and role model. God healed her as a baby and I have faith we will one day see all the reasons for such a magnificent miracle.

It is a high expectation but D.L. Moody said, Where one man reads the Bible, a hundred read you and me.

Her are some pertinent quotes:

Isaac Watts said; May I govern my passions with absolute sway, and grow wiser and better as life wears away.

“God’s definition of what matters is pretty straightforward. He measures our lives by how we love.” Francis Chan

Henry Ward Beecher quote: God pardons like a mother, who kisses the offense into everlasting forgiveness.

“Your talent is God’s gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God.” (Leo Buscaglia)

Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children. ~ Charles (Chuck) Swindoll
