Missed opportunities
Seize the Day
Living in the moment
Being sensitive
Gracious in speech
Bring out the best In others
See good
Listen before you speak
Forgive now

What makes my
Life sincere
All of the above
But remember
Let the
Missed opportunities
Become opportunities
Don’t shed bitter tears
Over unsaid words
Words undone
Live now
Reconnect
Stop stalling

Don’t miss an opportunity
To make a positive difference
To be a blessing
To be prepared
To be a good neighbor
To be honest
To be fruitful

EnCourage Others by your ATTITUDE.

Positive-Attitude

The famous question almost redundant but I will ask anyway. When you see half a glass of water sitting on the counter – is the glass half empty or is it half full? Those who have a positive outlook on life see the glass as half full. Some people see life full of problems – others see life full of challenges. What is your outlook on life? We encourage one another by our attitudes.

I am reminded of the story of two shoe salesmen who went to a tropical island where no one wore shoes. The first shoe salesman came back with a negative attitude and was somewhat depressed. He said, “It was so discouraging – NO ONE WORE SHOES! I’ll never sell shoes there.” The second salesman came back and he was all excited. He said, “What great potential! What great opportunity! NO ONE WORE SHOES! I gave away a pair of shoes to the tribal leader and he loved them. All the other tribal members want shoes now. We have a wide open market! NO ONE WORE SHOES!”

What is your outlook on life? Do you need an attitude check?

Yes there are moments when we flail and get a negative attitude but when we allow a positive attitude to dominate our life everything looks so much better.

I start fresh every day.

  • Be thankful
  • Be kind
  • Be at ease and have fun
  • Be good to yourself and think good thoughts about yourself
  • Be a good detective and find positive things

Our attitudes can affect our behaviors.

Let me encourage you – to be an encourager. Encourage others with the words you speak to them.

Encourage others by having a positive outlook on life.
“We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.”
Abraham Lincoln

“We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes.”
Charles R. Swindoll

I love jokes so here’s one…..

The Good Deed

A lady lost her handbag in the bustle of Christmas shopping.
It was found by an honest little boy and returned to her. Looking
in her purse, she commented, “That’s funny. When I lost my
bag there was a $100 bill in it. Now there are 100 $1 bills.” The
boy quickly replied, “That’s right, lady. The last time I found
a lady’s purse, she didn’t have any change for a reward.”

The truth so help me God.

Surreal God moment that I did not orchestrate.
It was a compulsion to write, yes it was cathartic and yes it changed my life forever.

I don’t do something of this magnitude (writing my life story exposing secrets of my heart) in a rash way.
I thought, prayed, weighed it time and again. But there was a moment of no return; Through tears and sobs and soul’s agony as the words began to pour out.

60 days to write and 10 years in draft format then to the publisher. All our life savings and what seem to be a thousand conversations, legalities, explanations, edits and approvals.

I remember the day my husband and i went to the publisher – my hubby waited in the car as I went inside. It was like a spiritual walk. I was taken to the conference room and actually feeling a little anxious. The lady in charge of my book entered the room and after a few formalities gave me the first copy. Holding it close meant I was holding my whole life and others close to my heart. I have to admit it was a huge surreal moment.

The copy of the book was a result of a type of birth that should not be trifled with but looked at, touched, felt and cherished, examined, loved even, but then again that’s an author’s viewpoint.

At first I thought family and friends supported ME and FEET FIRST.
It was false. Many lacked courage to read it. Many felt by reading somehow betrayed my mother.

Yes I faced disappointment.
The question was asked of me: “why you? Why did you have to write it, there are thousands of books written about abuse?”

Truth doesn’t always give the response you expect.
Truth doesn’t mean you don’t love.
In fact courage to speak truth for me was the greatest love.

I found that in speaking truth brought an array of disappointments.

Some read the book in critical condescending ways with a criticism to find ways to destroy my credibility. Others got bits and pieces from the book via another’s negative opinion thereby tarnishing what would have been something special for them.

I have tried to overlook that part of the disappointment for many reasons.

Then there were numerous people via the Internet, amazon, book signings came a multitude of comments, emails, thank you’s and calls. Simply an unexpected humbling experience.

Do I give up because some would not support my efforts?
No!
I am in the draft process of the manual that would accompany Feet First.

It has been mind-boggling when I think of the people who have contributed to the manual.

I am humbled AND honored by the path to each one of them.

I know I may not have a ‘come over for tea on Saturday and we’ll chat’ type relationship but my life has been enriched by them, their values, blogs, books, heart.

I took 9 months off; a type of sabbatical from the manual because I felt physically drained but I’m ready to get cracking again toward its completion.

I pray someday that all of my family would have the courage to read my book Feet First.

I do hope many more will  read Feet First on sale at amazon or available from our office. It’s okay you can love it or hate it; your choice.

It’s silly to say I wrote a book for no one to read it. I want people to read it and be blessed or the very least, a book to read.

Childhood abuse can cast a long shadow over your life influencing your emotional state, psychological state, physical state, health and how you relate to others. I believe I learned that while writing the book as the author of my life story and so much more as I am writing this second book.

I guess that gives clarity of why I wrote Feet First. I would like to lighten the shadow on the lives of my siblings, my family, my friends, my world. To personally make a positive impact on anyone that would allow my words to enter their world. To expose abuse for what it is and be willing to warn, to educate.

Patty Rase Hopson said that Abuse changes your life…Fight Back and change the life of your abusers by Breaking Your Silence on Abuse!

I believe this initial step puts the control of your life back into your hands and a necessary step toward healing and recovery.  I also sincerely believe it will help thousands in peril at this very moment.

For not only does sound reason direct us to refuse the guidance of those who do or teach anything wrong, but it is by all means vital for the lover of truth, regardless of the threat of death, to choose to do and say what is right even before saving his own life. A.W. Tozer

Truth has no special time of its own. Its hour is now – always.   Albert Schweitzer

Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.”

V is for Vinegar and Versatile.

Vinegar is a liquid substance consisting mainly of acetic acid (CH3CO2H) and water, the acetic acid being produced through the fermentation of ethanol by acetic acid bacteria.[1] It is today mainly used in the kitchen as a general cooking ingredient, but historically, as the most easily available mild acid.

Vinegar is important as a preservative, because it reduces the thermal death time of microorganisms and either inhibits or kills microorganisms, depending on the concentration used.

Not only does vinegar have varied uses there is a variety of types such as balsaic, malt, honey, cane, beer, coconut, date, distilled, fruit etc.

Uses of Vinegar:
• White distilled vinegar is a popular household cleanser, effective for killing most mold, bacteria, and germs, due to its level of acidity. Cleaning with white distilled vinegar is a smart way to avoid using harsh chemicals. You’ll also be glad to know that it is environmentally friendly and very economical.
• Occasionally water plants with a mixture of two tablespoons vinegar to one quart of water; Azaleas love acidic soil.
• Kills grass on walks and driveways.
• Eliminate animal urine stains which I have used on many occasions.
• Deter ants, spray vinegar around doors and windows.
• Remove skunk odor from a dog.

If you want to check out a website that gives a large array of uses for vinegar; check this out!

Doing a quick study on Vinegar quickly tells us it is a versatile product.

There we go; Versatile/Verstility.

Versatility is a fabulous word actually; it can turn on a dime.

Versatile means:
• that you are good at, or familiar with many things.
• the ability of changing or fluctuating.
• is embracing a variety of subjects, fields, or skills; also: turning with ease from one thing to another.
• capable of turning forward or backward

Of course without complicating Versatility; may I say that Flexibility with Versatility is a happy twin.

Flexibility is your willingness to adapt. It’s your attitude.

Do you have a willingness to change?

Versatility is your ability to adapt. It’s your aptitude. People with adaptability are both flexible and versatile.
Of course, our level of adaptability can be stronger in some situations than others. For example, we tend to be more adaptable at work with people we know less, and less adaptable at home with people we know better.

It is humorous however that research shows that people view themselves as more flexible and versatile than they actually are. That’s because we all desire to be versatile, and we judge ourselves on how we intend to act as well as on how we do act. But unfortunately, our actions don’t always match our intentions.

Come on now; let’s admit it there is a gap between the ideal versus our actual level of adaptability. The reason for the gap is that it’s not easy.

There are attributes that help us to be more flexible. Your flexibility is characterized by confidence, tolerance, empathy, positiveness and respect for others.

I want to break out in song and sing you gotta believe in yourself.

And it goes without saying that there are qualities that help us to be more versatile. Your versatility is increased by resilience, vision, attentiveness, competence and self-correction.

I want to break out into song one more time and sing ‘Resilience’ gives us the elasticity to overcome setbacks, barriers in spite of our resources or lack thereof. You have spunk and emotional resilience.

One amazing Story!
In his book Who Cares? Rediscovering Community, author David Schwartz writes: “When my friend Gerald looked out his office window, he saw the woman about to jump off the bridge. She stood on the edge, wavering. Below her the Susquehanna River flowed rapidly around the bridge footings, carrying flood logs and debris over the dam and to the Chesapeake Bay . . . Gerald stood for a minute, frozen.

What should he do? He seemed to be the only person who had spotted the woman from his vantage point one story above the street. Shaking himself into movement, he grabbed the telephone and started to dial the emergency number 911.

Could the police and the ambulance and the crisis intervention team possibly make it there in time? What would the woman do when she heard the police sirens speeding to her rescue? As his fingers punched the numbers, he saw a city bus rounding the turn onto the bridge. The bus drove slowly along the edge of the right lane. As it neared the woman, he saw the front accordion door open.

Then suddenly–almost too fast to see if his eyes hadn’t been riveted on the scene–the driver, in one continuous motion, stopped, leaned out of the open door, grabbed the woman’s arm from behind, and pulled her backward into his bus.

My friend sat down, shaking slightly, and replaced the telephone receiver in its cradle. He thought about what he’d seen. And because he was a reflective person, he thought about what he had done.

As he explained to me later, he realized that his response to the life-or-death situation of this stranger, this woman, had been to mobilize the complex human services system set up and ready to deal with such situations. That is what anyone would do, would they not? But the bus driver had responded completely differently . . . He had seen the situation and had immediately done something himself.” (Who Cares? Rediscovering Community, David Schwartz, pages 1,2)

Yes versatility is a major component in business, sports but life is the most versatile thing under the sun.

  • Let’s look again at versatility adjectives:
    • adaptable
    • flexible
    • all-round
    • multifaceted
    • handy
    • functional
    • variable
    • adjustable
    • accept change
    • emotionaly flexible
    • resiliant
    • attentive
    • helpful

To make a life -more enjoyable, loving, productive and giving; versatility is necessary.

To make dreams come true; versatility is often necessary. The ability to change, to move in a different direction, to be competent to have a driving force of versatility.

Some weeks ago I wrote a post on “N is for Nuts and Neat!” In this blog I mentioned to always leave a room better than when you entered. I’ve been thinking we could put this into practice in our daily lives. When we leave the presence of a person, room, community, group, blog or cyberspace; leave it better than when you entered. Mind you it will take versatility to do this.

apples2-300x300 copy

Versatility will be the foundation to make our days better, to make this world a better place. When a soldier is laid to rest versatility will be necessary to go on to help the family. When death and disease comes knocking not gently but loudly versatility will be a part of the strength necessary to carry on.

God Bless you today!

Ray Lewis realized the importance and magnitude of versatility. He said, “Life is about being a versatile athlete and training in all realms of life.

pearls
string of pearls

dark
it all came crashing down
under my feet the ground
gave way,
did i hear spurgeon’s voice
look! see
it’s a silvery strand of faith
akin to the strand by silver strand
woven by the spider
its spin of splenderous sheen,

faith feels for certain
what cannot be seen
such a splendid thing,

it’s the thread
upon which the pearls
of the grace are hung
it has always
held the graces not the voices
of vice and depravity,

graces of such pristine value
as dancers through the day
with graceful artistic expression
with elegant hand position
pirouette return to
finish in arabesque
strength and poise
of tip toe in ballet pointe
adagio the slow enfolding
artistic movements
spotting and spinning with
balance
such grace
how the magic flows,

far beyond such majesty
is the pearls upon the silver
strand of faith
graces of gemstone value
love, joy and peace
and the impact so rare of
patience, kindness
nacreous of goodness
refections of
gentleness and self control
and of course your
irridencence display
of faithfulness
when you
stand by me in spite
of time and trouble,

i know i’m truly blessed
because
you

WHAT IF THERE ARE DISAPPOINTMENTS?

Let’s not kid ourselves
We live in a non perfect world and we will have disappointments.

As much as it pleases God to bless you, there will be moments when everything you try goes up in smoke. There will be moments when the one you counted on most walks away and leaves you groping through blinding tears and wailing questions of why. Plans and goals can be circumvented by the most disappointing of times, leaving you learning the art of patience and the acceptance of a denied request. TD Jakes

May I express my gratitude that you are here right now.

Day 28 of my 30 Day Thankfulness Challenge; I am thankful for Writing . 😀

I actually am very grateful that I have the opportunity to write.

It gives me a way to transpose the events of the day, life in general, personal issues, trauma, sorrows, glories of creation, family, happiness, death, disappointment, friends, the majesty of God and my  relationship with God.

Poetry gives me one of the greatest and most fun outlet of all. I would like to reiterate my former blog on the ‘writer’ and ‘the written word‘.

J. B. Priestly says, “Perhaps it would be better not to be a writer, but if you must, then write. If it all feels helpless, if that famous ‘inspiration’ will not come, write. If you are a genius, you’ll make your own rules, but if not—and the odds are against it—go to your desk, no matter what your mood, face the challenge of the paper—write.”

That’s good advice but I don’t want mindless drivel. I seriously would like to fill the page with the breathings, the battles and the bliss of my heart and soul. Not just words but phrases that would illuminate not to deceive nor depress. I admit sometimes ‘to illuminate and encourage’ one must show the dark side of things or go to a place in the past.

The ‘written word’ is perhaps the most influential, the most important, most dynamic of all time. Naturally we cannot depend upon our limited human memory. I can forget a thought from one side of the room to the other. The written word can be a timeless record whether it is bad or great writing preserved for generations way off into the future.

These words can provide food for the mind, for the soul, for understanding, and for awareness. It is unbelievable that we can put our words together and placed in a timeless Zone.

Day 28 Asus X53E-RS52-1
William Hazzlitt says, “The more a man writes, the more he can write.”
I believe the elitist writers of our time will concur that writing is a distinct durable and transmittable way to convey your thoughts. I believe they will also concur that it is very important to set the standard high to have skilled writers. It is there that sometimes I fall short many times but I will not give up.
**
Personally I have always written for a cause. I realize many write for the sheer enjoyment, a mythology muse and a variety of other reasons.

Initially at a naive age I felt a desire to write but chose to remain silent. There is a price to pay for silence in writing as well as disclosure of abuse. Methinks the majority of health issue fall into this category of silence.

“God wants you to be delivered from what you have done and from what has been done to you – Both are equally important to God.” Joyce Meyer, Beauty for Ashes

Surprisingly with my limited experience I found a profound, inspiring, freeing connection between writing and healing.

The written word, my words became a catharsis at first because I broke the silence and vented. However the experience of the written word began to allow me the opportunity to reduce my stress and depression.

Through the experience of the written word something had occurred but I had no professional scientific comparison. Not only did I begin to understand other people but my own essence opened up as a fountain. Something more began to happen when I wrote only ‘negatively’ the fountain did not flow the same. However when I expressed both negative and positive in words something truly magical happened. I literally felt better on the inside and it expressed openly in my demeanor and actions.

The fountain of passion changed; I not only wanted to help me to true life and living but I wanted to help others. Now it felt possible.

A writer has to figure it out on their own many times but I feel it is not enough to disclose abuse though monstrous as it is. Disclosure is important for our emotional health but that in itself is not enough. We have to face and examine the past and understand the abuse and realize the child isn’t to blame. From there begin to understand our hurt and pain and give credence to the pain we can actually begin to understand the polars of pain.

The next step is finding the path to forgiveness and allow ourselves to learn; it actually will boost our physical well being. So it is the words of negative and positive allows for a healthy well being.  It is the words that are penned; the indescribable and overwhelming to become describable and less overbearing. The words gave freedom.

A survivor of child abuse I will continue to campaign for the advocacy of putting a stop to all forms of abuse. My desire is to be a vessel of honor for God who wishes to speak for those who can’t speak about their traumatic pasts. I Put Creator God First and Know God’s power can help us.

“The reason one writes isn’t the fact he wants to say something. He writes because he has something to say”. – F. Scott Fitzgerald

“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.” –William Wordsworth

“I have to continually balance ‘being a writer’ with being a wife and mother. It’s a matter of putting two different things first, simultaneously.” Madeleine L’Engle

Writing is a form of therapy; sometimes I wonder how all those who do not write, compose or paint can manage to escape the madness, melancholia, the panic and fear which is inherent in a human situation. Graham Greene

Day 16 of my recent 30 Day Thankfulness Challenge; I am thankful for God and the Universe.   😀

The universe is centered on neither the earth nor the sun. It is centered on God. ~ Alfred Noyes

It is my belief that the stars and other heavenly bodies do not influence human personality and activity and the position of celestial bodies cannot foretell our future. The Search for meaning and purpose has drawn many people toward human-centered philosophies and religions.

God is the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth. The Creator of me and quite capable to help me every day. I found my purpose in God.

When I need protection God has it under control and if need be, he can dispatch a guardian/ministering angel.

So Grateful to God for my life. God so loved you and me…

The more I learn of his great love for humanity and for me as an individual the more I am awed.

..declares the Lord, “I have plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

The Universe is SO interesting.

  • If the sun stopped shining suddenly, it would take eight minutes for people on earth to be aware of the fact. This is because the sunlight takes around 8 minutes to reach the earth.
  • Our universe consists of more than 100 billion galaxies, and each galaxy, on average contains more that 100 billion stars, which accounts for more than 10 billion trillion stars i.e. 1 followed by 22 zeros.
  • The Earth is rotating on its axis at a rate of 0.5 kilometer per second at the equator, and is orbiting the sun at a rate of about 30 kilometers per second. The sun is orbiting  the centre of the Milky Way at a rate of about 220 kilometres per second.
  • Even on the clearest night, the human eye can only see about 3,000 stars. There are an estimated 100,000,000,000 in our galaxy alone!
  • Its estimated that the number of stars in the universe is greater than the number of grains of sand on all the beaches in the world! On a clear night, we can see the equivalent of a handful of sand.
  • Mars hosts the highest peak in the solar system, named Olympus Mons, with a height of around 80,000 feet(2400 meters) which is more than 2.5 times the height of mount  Everest.

I love looking at pictures of the universe whether its a cosmic storm, a view from the space station.  It is all quite spectacular.

A giant cosmic necklace –  The object, aptly named the Necklace Nebula, is a recently discovered planetary nebula, the glowing remains of an ordinary, Sun-like star.

578860main_necklace-670

The nebula consists of a bright ring, measuring 12 trillion miles across, dotted with dense, bright knots of gas that resemble diamonds in a necklace. The knots glow brightly due to absorption of ultraviolet light from the central stars

Wow the Universe is AMAZING – The Helix Nebula (also known as The Helix, NGC 7293, or Caldwell 63) is a large planetary nebula (PN) located in the constellation Aquarius. One of the closest to the Earth of all the bright planetary nebulae. The Helix has often been referred to as the Eye of God.

God’s Creation is so Awesome. Can’t say that enough! Another pic I love is The Spiral Galaxy M100 one of the brightest galaxies in the Virgo cluster.

Pertinent Quotes:

John O’Keefe (astronomer at NASA): “We are, by astronomical standards, a pampered, cosseted, cherished group of creatures.. .. If the Universe had not been made with the most exacting precision we could never have come into existence. It is my view that these circumstances indicate the universe was created for man to live in.”

Genesis 1:1-31 – In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day

C.S.Lewis ‘Mere Christianity’ page 46
If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark. Dark would be without meaning.

Day 15  of my recent 30 Day Thankfulness Challenge; I am thankful for a fire in a fireplace.      😀

I love sitting in front of a fireplace. I had the privilege to sit in front of a roaring fire every night for two years; No Tv, sometimes a book and a fire. I miss it.  It wasn’t too long when I began to daydream or get sleepy when sitting around a flickering fire.

Maybe in the scientific sense; it’s the slow flicker rate of the firelight so that when you gaze into a flickering fire, your brain activity tends to slow. Probably that’s why you find yourself relaxing or even yawning around a kindling camp fire or a cozy fireplace.

Fire warms us giving us the heat we need but the flames dance away the evening that provide a time to relax.

Day 15 fire_in_fireplace

Many a evening entranced by the flames I would watch the flame and humorously enjoy  the many changing colors and dancing movements. Crackle and sizzle and the flicker not just entertainment but it’s an invitation to draw close and stay close like a warm hug.

Time in front of a fire is never wasted.  How can time pondering, meditating, thinking, dreaming, planning and appreciating life be a waste of time.  Possibly it is sitting in front of the flame I realized that it is a waste of energy to focus on what I am missing, something I don’t have.  A better attitude, a knowledge that one key to happiness is to take pleasure in what I actually have.  I truly appreciate life!

What is it about a fire at Christmas congers Christmas magic, youltide, reminiscing about Christmas past, evokes conversation of  Dickens’s day and ‘The Christmas Carol’ and centuries long gone. A time to remember what Christmas really means for me.

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the LORD Almighty
will accomplish this. – Isaiah 9:6-7

Day Two of my 30 Days of Thankfulness Challenge.

I am thankful for my firstborn, #1 son. I prayed for a son and God gave us the best possible son. WE knew within our hearts we would have a loving and respectful son. Sure, that he is!

#1 Son is an Intellectual, athletic, law abiding, integral son; A father of great value. What more could a mother and father and society wish for.

#1 Son Loves golf and basketball and volleyball. He can master anything he touches whether music, sports, theology, sciences, writing, speaking etc.  He excels in playing the drums, guitar and singing.

He loves star trek and all things sci-fi.

I actually want to laugh out loud here. I too love Star Trek! Do You?

He is a teacher in a high school and students tell me all the  time how much they like him. He is a smashing great teacher who has respect and compassion for all students and co-workers.

Thus far he’s not ashamed of his mother so that’s a big bonus.

I leave you with two pertinent quotes:

The foundation stones for a balanced success are honesty, character, integrity, faith, love and loyalty. Zig Ziglar

Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children. ~ Charles (Chuck) Swindoll

I was invited to participate in a world blog tour and in turn nominate 5 others but alas I did not meet the time frame but I thought I would do the blog anyway.

At first when I thought about the opening portion of the blog my mind began to whirl around the words ‘writer’ and ‘the written word’.

J. B. Priestly says, “Perhaps it would be better not to be a writer, but if you must, then write. If it all feels helpless, if that famous ‘inspiration’ will not come, write. If you are a genius, you’ll make your own rules, but if not—and the odds are against it—go to your desk, no matter what your mood, face the  challenge of the paper—write.

“I hate endings. Just detest them. Beginnings are definitely the most exciting, middles are perplexing and endings are a disaster. . . . The temptation towards resolution, towards wrapping up the package, seems to me a terrible trap. Why not be more honest with the moment? The most authentic endings are the ones which are already revolving towards another beginning. That’s genius.” ― Sam Shepard
