world-gone-mad

Have you ever come against a brick wall or felt that every good deed or action came to naught. Or maybe you felt discouraged by society and the destruction seems to be on the rise.

Is it just me or do you often think that there is a kinda madness sweeping o’er the world? If we just look at society in general we would only see the violent, selfish, injustice, flawed social policies, overall irrational behaviour.

The day to day news is filled with negative while the rich get richer and the poor seem to get poorer. Mankind appears to have digressed instead of maturing. Murders, debt, pollution, madness, greed, robbery, bitterness, fear on every corner.

Periodically I get overwhelmed with it all and I admit a little fed-up.

World is going mad
Secrets

Inquiry
Tensions
Less truth

Self preservation
Oh
When
Will
This
End?

I guess ultimately we each are responsible to make sure we are grounded and not get caught up in the madness cyclonic effect. To tend to the inner spiritual self and nurture ourselves to strength.

For God’s sake, yourself, your kids, your friends and the world; Be kind, treat all living things with compassion, remember that honesty is still the best policy in spite off and the very least will make you a teeny tiny wee bit happy for not lying.

I try to maintain a positive thought pattern, a positive outlook, a positive word.  So to that end I will say after the pity party let’s pick up y/our positive cloak and put it back on. Stand out from the crowd and if we have to, start a minority of good thoughts, good living, good graces. 😀

“We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.”
Abraham Lincoln

Choosing to be positive and having a grateful attitude is going to determine how you’re going to live your life. : Joel Osteen

So today I shall remind myself   – Attitudes are more important than facts.

Now I’m gonna go look for something to make me laugh!

R is for Rhubarb and Respect

Rhubarb are perennials growing from short, thick root. They have large leaves that are somewhat triangular, with long fleshy stem. They have small flowers grouped in large compound leafy greenish-white to rose-red inflorescences [group or cluster of flowers].

Rhubarb is usually considered to be a vegetable; however some people consider it a fruit.

Rhubarb is a source of calcium, Vitamin C, and potassium.

One cup (250 mL) raw, diced has 27 calories.

Rhubarb also contains glycosides especially rhein, glucorhein and emodin which impart cathartic and laxative activities to it. It is hence useful as a cathartic in case of constipation.

Rhubarb is ready to be consumed as soon as it is harvested, and freshly cut stalks will be firm and glossy.

Rhubarb will grow year-round in warm climates, but in temperate climates, the above ground portion of the plant completely withers away at the onset of freezing temperature; the plant grows from the root at the return of warm weather.

The colour of rhubarb stalks can vary from the commonly associated crimson red, through speckled light pink, to simply light green. Rhubarb stalks are poetically described as “crimson stalks”.!

Rhubarb made a delightful jam and dessert dish.

As a kid it was common that many neighbors had rhubarb growing in their garden. As well it was out of respect and kindness that one would share their rhubarb with their neighbors.

Respect that’s a good attribute to have.

Respect gives a positive feeling of esteem or deference for a person or other entity (such as a nation or a religion), and also specific actions and conduct representative of that esteem. Respect can be a specific feeling of regard for the actual qualities of the one respected. Wikipedia

In practical terms what is respect?

  • A feeling of appreciative, often deferential regard; esteem
  • The state of being regarded with honor or esteem
  • Willingness to show consideration or appreciation
  • Respects, Polite expressions of consideration or admiration

How we treat one another with RESPECT is so important.

  • No matter how difficult an older person is, we need to treat them with respect- There’s so much we can learn from the older generation
  • Young people should also RESPECT the older generation – you can learn much as well
  • We need to treat women with respect
  • Men if you can’t respect a woman or women in general then I would guess you have a lot of growing up to do
  • Women if you see single parents or woman in need help look after women -women know women
  • Women I think it isn’t necessary to brow beat men the pendulum swings both ways.
  • Men don’t allow the many men who have failed their woman, children and society to go unnoticed and leave only a negative impact – continue a respectful and honorable example
  • Lack of respect is an epidemic in our society
  • Respect goes beyond admiration you need to put it into practice

Practical Advice for Teaching and Requiring Our Children to Respect Other People

  • Talk the talk
  • Walk the walk
  • Speak respect
  • Train children intentionally about respect
  • Respect others as you would have others respect you – be the example
  • Don’t give up
  • Respect is an attitude first
  • Respect helps children succeed in life

If children don’t have respect for themselves, peers, or authority, it’s almost impossible for them to succeed.

Children Learn What They Live

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive.
If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.

If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.
If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy.
If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.

If children live with tolerance, they learn patience.
If children live with praise, they learn appreciation.
If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.
If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.

If children live with recognition, they learn it is good to have a goal.
If children live with sharing, they learn generosity.
If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.
If children live with fairness, they learn justice.

If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect.
If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and in those about them.
If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live.

Quotes I am pondering today!

“Only those who respect the personality of others can be of real use to them” – Albert Schweitzer

“The capacity for getting along with our neighbor depends to a large extent on the capacity for getting along with ourselves. The self-respecting individual will try to be as tolerant of his neighbor’s shortcomings as he is of his own.” – Eric Hoffer

“They cannot take away our self-respect if we do not give it to them.” – Mohandas K. Gand
