EnCourage Others by your ATTITUDE.

Positive-Attitude

The famous question almost redundant but I will ask anyway. When you see half a glass of water sitting on the counter – is the glass half empty or is it half full? Those who have a positive outlook on life see the glass as half full. Some people see life full of problems – others see life full of challenges. What is your outlook on life? We encourage one another by our attitudes.

I am reminded of the story of two shoe salesmen who went to a tropical island where no one wore shoes. The first shoe salesman came back with a negative attitude and was somewhat depressed. He said, “It was so discouraging – NO ONE WORE SHOES! I’ll never sell shoes there.” The second salesman came back and he was all excited. He said, “What great potential! What great opportunity! NO ONE WORE SHOES! I gave away a pair of shoes to the tribal leader and he loved them. All the other tribal members want shoes now. We have a wide open market! NO ONE WORE SHOES!”

What is your outlook on life? Do you need an attitude check?

Yes there are moments when we flail and get a negative attitude but when we allow a positive attitude to dominate our life everything looks so much better.

I start fresh every day.

  • Be thankful
  • Be kind
  • Be at ease and have fun
  • Be good to yourself and think good thoughts about yourself
  • Be a good detective and find positive things

Our attitudes can affect our behaviors.

Let me encourage you – to be an encourager. Encourage others with the words you speak to them.

Encourage others by having a positive outlook on life.
“We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.”
Abraham Lincoln

“We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes.”
Charles R. Swindoll

I love jokes so here’s one…..

The Good Deed

A lady lost her handbag in the bustle of Christmas shopping.
It was found by an honest little boy and returned to her. Looking
in her purse, she commented, “That’s funny. When I lost my
bag there was a $100 bill in it. Now there are 100 $1 bills.” The
boy quickly replied, “That’s right, lady. The last time I found
a lady’s purse, she didn’t have any change for a reward.”

The truth so help me God.

Surreal God moment that I did not orchestrate.
It was a compulsion to write, yes it was cathartic and yes it changed my life forever.

I don’t do something of this magnitude (writing my life story exposing secrets of my heart) in a rash way.
I thought, prayed, weighed it time and again. But there was a moment of no return; Through tears and sobs and soul’s agony as the words began to pour out.

60 days to write and 10 years in draft format then to the publisher. All our life savings and what seem to be a thousand conversations, legalities, explanations, edits and approvals.

I remember the day my husband and i went to the publisher – my hubby waited in the car as I went inside. It was like a spiritual walk. I was taken to the conference room and actually feeling a little anxious. The lady in charge of my book entered the room and after a few formalities gave me the first copy. Holding it close meant I was holding my whole life and others close to my heart. I have to admit it was a huge surreal moment.

The copy of the book was a result of a type of birth that should not be trifled with but looked at, touched, felt and cherished, examined, loved even, but then again that’s an author’s viewpoint.

At first I thought family and friends supported ME and FEET FIRST.
It was false. Many lacked courage to read it. Many felt by reading somehow betrayed my mother.

Yes I faced disappointment.
The question was asked of me: “why you? Why did you have to write it, there are thousands of books written about abuse?”

Truth doesn’t always give the response you expect.
Truth doesn’t mean you don’t love.
In fact courage to speak truth for me was the greatest love.

I found that in speaking truth brought an array of disappointments.

Some read the book in critical condescending ways with a criticism to find ways to destroy my credibility. Others got bits and pieces from the book via another’s negative opinion thereby tarnishing what would have been something special for them.

I have tried to overlook that part of the disappointment for many reasons.

Then there were numerous people via the Internet, amazon, book signings came a multitude of comments, emails, thank you’s and calls. Simply an unexpected humbling experience.

Do I give up because some would not support my efforts?
No!
I am in the draft process of the manual that would accompany Feet First.

It has been mind-boggling when I think of the people who have contributed to the manual.

I am humbled AND honored by the path to each one of them.

I know I may not have a ‘come over for tea on Saturday and we’ll chat’ type relationship but my life has been enriched by them, their values, blogs, books, heart.

I took 9 months off; a type of sabbatical from the manual because I felt physically drained but I’m ready to get cracking again toward its completion.

I pray someday that all of my family would have the courage to read my book Feet First.

I do hope many more will  read Feet First on sale at amazon or available from our office. It’s okay you can love it or hate it; your choice.

If you are willing to do a review I will give you a complimentary hard copy or Ebook format.

Here are three ways to purchase Feet First from Amazon:
Amazon UK

Amazon .COM

Amazon.CA
Or by email at:  feetfirstbook@gmail.com

It’s silly to say I wrote a book for no one to read it. I want people to read it and be blessed or the very least, a book to read.

Childhood abuse can cast a long shadow over your life influencing your emotional state, psychological state, physical state, health and how you relate to others. I believe I learned that while writing the book as the author of my life story and so much more as I am writing this second book.

I guess that gives clarity of why I wrote Feet First. I would like to lighten the shadow on the lives of my siblings, my family, my friends, my world. To personally make a positive impact on anyone that would allow my words to enter their world. To expose abuse for what it is and be willing to warn, to educate.

Patty Rase Hopson said that Abuse changes your life…Fight Back and change the life of your abusers by Breaking Your Silence on Abuse!

I believe this initial step puts the control of your life back into your hands and a necessary step toward healing and recovery.  I also sincerely believe it will help thousands in peril at this very moment.

For not only does sound reason direct us to refuse the guidance of those who do or teach anything wrong, but it is by all means vital for the lover of truth, regardless of the threat of death, to choose to do and say what is right even before saving his own life. A.W. Tozer

Truth has no special time of its own. Its hour is now – always.   Albert Schweitzer

Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.”

Butterflies in my Tummy!

Butterflies are Graceful, Enchanting And free
They are the epitome that caterpillars never give up.

However today I would like to mention butterflies in a different way.

I’m sure having butterflies is a common occurrence.

Why do I get butterflies in my tummy?

Isn’t it amazing how our body is interconnected.

The stomach/digestive system in linked to a person’s thoughts and emotions.

Stomach butterflies are associated with [according to scientists] the body’s fight or flight response.  When the brain perceives a possible threat to our survival it sets the alarm.  Raising our heart rate, blood pressure and breathing. The hormones and adrenaline is released and we become a wicked mess.

Check out physiology today regarding fight or flight: http://psychology.about.com/od/findex/g/fight-or-flight-response.htm

I guess in a way butterflies are a sensitivity to fight or flight response.    While having butterflies in the tummy every now and again isn’t harmful but if it becomes an interference in our lives then it would be a good idea to seek help.

I still think it amazing that if we aren’t sensitive to our own thoughts, just plain nerves or even problems, crises and reactions; the butterflies will come out to play and cause a disturbance to make you listen.

Sometimes the butterflies are a hint that we are indeed alive and well.

So

Don’t ignore the butterfly

It’s the fluttering of the lone butterfly.
That quiet voice.
Softer then an ache.
Not as harsh as nawing
It’s just enough flutter
To cause to pause.

Did you have cause to pause
Today?
Did you stop?
See many blessings
Amidst the thorns?
Smell the flowers?
Aroma of a meal?
Chatter of family
And friends
The squirrel
In the back yard,

That quiet inner voice
That says fix it
On your end,
Make a move,
Lift someone up,
The quarrel you had
Make it right,
Apologize
Or
Stand your ground
In respect,
Times awastin
Don’t put off
What needs to be
Done – today,
Here nature chirping
Just a little louder
Don’t take the unresolved
To bed,
Don’t upset

Just before Christmas I ordered the Plum Tree Books New Poem Card Collection.

cards
Card Collection!

card poem collection

♫ ♪  ♫  ♫  ♫ ☼ ♪

To back up a little I joined a very intellectual, intelligent, artistic group of musicians, poets, artist, writers, authors, editors, publishers, producers the whole gamut. Now Imagine my surprise, I; yes me; was accepted into this elite group of people from all parts of the world called The Plum Tree.

It is amazing, humbling, stretching, out of the box, out of the comfort zone group – Plum Tree.
Check out The  Plum Tree  website to get a picture of the the talent that is offered.

To order the Poem Card Collection here.
Niamh Clune is the founder of The Plum Tree/Books, an award-winning social entrepreneur, an environmental campaigner and a singer/songwriter.

Niamh Clune  of Plum Tree Books started a New Poem Card Collection for purchasing. On each card an artist within the group has their work displayed.

These cards come with attachable poems [written by Niamh Clune] and are unique! Some wonderful artists, including Marta Pelrine Bacon, Maria Antonietta Terrana, Cher Duncombe and Susie Bertie whose images captured and displayed talent. All of these ladies donated works to auction for the Song Of Sahel earlier in the year.

Imagine a copy of such fantastic artwork within my hands. I was so excited I did not want to let them go.

What does a person do when you cannot purchase original works of art?
I thought I would do a collage and order more cards to give to friends, family, neighbors and people for birthdays, thank you’s and celebrations.

IMG_7631

I did not do my traditional retro style of collage. I was a little more reserved because I wanted the artwork to remain mostly intact so my collage was a little conservative.

Nuts

What can I say unless you are deathly allergic, nuts are great for you.

A nut is a fruit composed of a hard shell and a seed, where the hard-shelled fruit does not open to release the seed (indehiscent). A nut in botany is a simple dry fruit with one seed. Though some nuts are not true nuts in the botanical sense nevertheless is a nut in the culinary sense.

My favorites are almonds, cashews, peanuts and brazel nuts. Nuts are linked to protection against coronary heart disease.

Many nuts have essential fatty acids are good sources of vitamins E and B2, and are rich in protein, folate, fiber, and essential minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, and selenium. Thank you Wikipedia.

muscle-nuts

I went to a restaurant/bar/steakhouse type place with my hubby many years ago and I was appalled at the idea of seeing everyone around the bar eating from bowls and bowls of peanuts [that part wasn’t bad] and just throwing the shells on the floor. Of course the nuts are there so you could be so thirsty you are hollering for another drink. But the idea that it’s a good thing to throw the shells on the floor. What are we, pigs?

Sorry if you think I am going to agree with this type of behavior in todays world just for people to unwind. No thank you.

It is a blooming Mess.  Oh well to each his own I guess.

Which brings me to the idea of being a neat individual.
Why shouldn’t we aspire to being neat. It actually saves time and energy to be neat.
Why let it build up.

NEAT! Yes it’s a 4 letter word but not a bad word. It is very good.

Neat means arranged well, uncluttered. Some would disagree but I would add clean also.

Simply get up; put things away; organize. A part of being neat is to clean. If you are opposed to traditional cleaners use vinegar and water; simple.  However there are lots of green products available.

I hope you like my list of ideas.
How to be neat and clean even with a busy schedule.  I know for some people with other complexities in their life it is challenging.

  • practice making your bed
  • organize and declutter and downsize
  • put things away after its use
  • leave a room better/nicer/tidier/cleaner than when you entered
  • recycle and put garbage in the trash
  • if you can’t wear it or use; give to goodwill
  • try not to be a clutter bug
  • wipe things down especially the bathroom and kitchen
  • always give your bathroom a quick wipe each day; especially the toilet
  • run dishwasher at night to conserve/reduce your electric bills
  • put dirty clothes in hamper/basket
  • put a load of clothes in wash as soon as you get a load and at night
  • have rugs in front of door or patio doors to catch excess dirt
  • don’t be afraid of a broom
  • if you cannot do vacuum all together then run a vacuum on one level at a time every other day or on weekend.
  • break up the house/apartment into segments and identify a day for certain tasks
  • that way you are not worn out trying to tidy/clean
  • personal hygiene is the epitamy of neatness; who said a toothbrush, comb, shampoo & water couldn’t do wonders.
  • find joy in organizing your space; I’m sure you have great ideas
  • while organizing and clean don’t forget to listen to music; makes it fun

Simple items/ideas to use to get organized:

  • baskets
  • mason jars
  • clear plastic containers
  • storage bins
  • filing cabinet
  • wicker dresser with baskets
  • one closet to store items; makes house/office tidy looking
  • entertainment centre that has multiple purpose sections to optimize organization
  • roll towels, facecloths and blankets easier to take from closet etc

Why be Neat and Clean?

  • people who are neat are usually calmer
  • entering a clean tidy neat space is very much refreshing
  • surrounding atmosphere is feng Shui or inappropriately called zen i call it neat
  • people thrive in a neat space
  • saves time in locating items especially important to teach children

Now I also realize that people that suffer from depression find it difficult sometimes to be tidy and clean. It could be a daunting task so break the tasks/room up into sections and do so much a day. This should help you to complete your project.

I is for Iced Tea and Integrity!

One advertisement of Iced Tea boasts that it is; An iced tea made with a progressive bottling process that extracts oxygen, the cause of food spoilage. With oxygen gone, so is the need to laden the product with chemicals or preservatives. The result is an organic tea that is as pure as any tea freshly prepared.  It is actually very delicious.

Brewed from the same leaves as hot teas, iced tea has the same health benefits as its warmer counterpart. Numerous studies have shown that higher levels of flavonoids and other substances in tea give it many antioxidant properties. Adding lemon juice, which contains high amounts of beneficial vitamin C and potassium, to your iced tea not only lends flavor, but can increase the health benefits as well.

Don’t you just love a Iced Tea with a twist of Lemon on a warm day!!

iced tea

Iced tea assists in increasing the strength of the immune system. It protects teeth from plaque with many health experts recommending it for people looking to shed some weight.

A person who loves his/her tea can sit with an ice tea firm in their integrity.

Whoho  “Integrity”

What is Integrity?

Don’t you just love Wipedia.

Integrity is a concept of consistency of actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes. In ethics, integrity is regarded as the honesty and truthfulness or accuracy of one’s actions. Integrity can be regarded as the opposite of hypocrisy,[1] in that integrity regards internal consistency as a virtue, and suggests that parties holding apparently conflicting values should account for the discrepancy or alter their beliefs.

To be a person of integrity can on occasion be a tall order but necessary courage.

A person of integrity is validated by their words and deeds. Integrity is making your daily actions line up with your heart’s values.

In other words, what I say and what I do give evidence as to who I am.

Now that is significant because how I feel in my heart, I Must do, less I become closer to a weakling, a fake, a coward. Oh my that is huge.

Mark Twain said: “Speaking honestly is better. It takes a lot of stress out of our lives. If you tell the truth you don’t have to remember anything, but if you don’t tell the truth you have to remember what you said.”

If I have integrity then I have a guidance, a peace, a path. No need to worry. I will have a moral compass.

When tested a person of integrity will do what is right.

Since integrity begins in our heart.  For me; that means I must ask God to examine my heart to see if there be anything unbecoming a lady.

My encouragement; don’t cave in.  Even when all things are going wrong remain faithful.  Be a person of integrity.  Be blameless.  Don’t be persuaded by others to diminish your integrity.

“Everybody else is doing it?” This is one of the most lame rationalizations that we could use to justify our actions.

I care what the creator thinks of me.  I want to remain integral in all my dealings!

Again what does integrity look like? If you/I is a person of integrity it will reflect in every facet of our lives. How we act/react in our relationships; our business, our marriage, friendship, acquaintances, writing, words, sports, politics, sickness, spiritual life, thoughts, extra curricular or testing or turmoil.  Nothing goes untouched.

It is open and honest in all y/our dealings! WOW!

Integrity

Quotes I am Pondering Today!

If you take care of yourself and walk with integrity, you may be confident that God will deal with those who sin against you. Above all, don’t give birth to sin yourself; rather, pray for those who persecute you. God will one day turn your persecution into praise. Warren Wiersbe

Live so that when your children think of fairness, caring, and integrity, they think of you.  H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

The strength of a nation derives from the integrity of the home. Confucius

Day 10 of my recent 30 Day Thankfulness Challenge; I am thankful for Music.

I am thankful for music
Electrical colorful current to the soul
To say it enhances life
Is the greatest understatement
Rest assured music
Had to be Birthed in heaven

It’s a mystery how musical notes
Born created and recorded in a studio
When it reaches my ears
The accompaniment is
An invisible heavenly chorus
What is it about music?
Power to ignite happiness
Soothe pierced and damaged heart
Pluck romantic strings
Feel Safe and Secure
Challenge status quo
Tickles creativity
Pulls back heaven’s curtain
While affirming
God is still there
What is it about music?
That enhances learning
Change our attitude
Kick start motivation
Makes us laugh
Reduce anxiety
Heightens healing
Build brain cells

Will someone turn up that there CD player now let’s enjoy some music 😀

Pertinent Quotes:

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Psalm 95:1

The best, most beautiful, and most perfect way that we have of expressing a sweet concord of mind to each other is by music.

Jonathan Edwards

It is so much fun to go for a walk  [don’t forget your camera] and observe the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees and yes the butterflies!

It is nice to see nature as an adult but to see it as a child or through a child’s eye and delight is extraordinary!

Just like the nursery singing rhyme I wrote while rocking my middle grand-baby to sleep.

Birds and the bees
And the leaves
And the trees
 There are ma-ny
Things to see,

                            But I want to see
A but-ter-fly
I want to see
A but-ter-fly,
But-ter-fly
But-ter-fly,

I want to see
The wings of a
but-ter-fly
I want to see
The wings of a
But-ter-fly,

But-ter-fly
But-ter-fly
 Hmmmmmm
 Hmmmmmm
 Hmmmmmm

There is so much beauty in nature and it’s so rewarding to learn as much as possible. To examine the butterfly is no exception.

The butterfly struggle from cocoon to flight is difficult and restrictive. This is nature`s perfection in action to force the fluid from the body to the wings so upon entry into the world, it could fly.

So it seems that a butterfly must struggle to live, without that struggle he would never fly. Do you think there is some truth to that for you and I?

The struggles, the trials, the trash, the garbage, the manipulation, the abuse, the nightmares, the depression, the night sweats, myriad of repercussions and maladies we may have suffered in childhood and thereafter not exactly the preferred path but in spite of that – the struggle made us soar.

beauty + courage + freedom + creativity = flight

Boy I hope you don’t feel that it’s a cliché or a platitude but we overcame and continue to be overcomers.

The butterfly – flies strong and free and so can “weeeeeee”……

Truly, It has made us who we are and hopefully we [ including me ] will continue to develop and not be afraid of change. ……Change prepares you and I to move beyond the perceived limitations.

Don’t feel you are alone- we are in this together so take heart!

WE beat the odds…
So it is perseverance that won the day…..

I am no longer defined by my past (struggle) but it prepared me for my flight plan !

My son spent some time in Guatemala and came back with a legend. While he was gone I watched a documentary on the Blue Butterfly. I also did a brief research project on The Blue Butterfly. The three events converged on the following tale!

Mayans in Guatemala &

The Blue Butterfly

“Mayans in Guatemala speak of simultaneous Twin Realities: the world of dreams and the world of work.

These two worlds are likened to the opposing wings of a Butterfly: the dream world is one wing, and the awake world is the other.

They believe the wings must connect at the Heart of the Butterfly to fly and live.

Real life occurs because of the interaction of the wings. The Life is the Butterfly’s Heart. Life, like the Butterfly’s Heart, is kept alive by the two opposing, mirroring twin-like wings.”

For me; it is important right now to not only have a world of reality but to have a dream world.  Together I celebrate a complete life from the heart.

Welcome to the Blog Tour of the Release of

Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.

 The Butterfly Effect is:

A small action that led to a devastating event or its opposite

A small decision that changed your life for good or ill

Saying a small thing that ended or began a relationship

A small decision that marked a wrong turn in your life or in the life of someone else

An act of environmental vandalism that contributes to climate change

A small act of environmental consideration that makes a difference to the whole

Here is my  ‘true story’ Contribution entitled  ‘The Imprint’

Imprint

Our youngest, a delightful, vibrant, mite of a child known to us as ‘Pooh’ or ‘Half Pint’, Joanne; a small thing that caused such large love in our family.

It was the beginning of her first year at school.
I heard the usual rustle of papers.
The delight in her eyes said this was different.
“Look mommy this is for you!”

Bending down eye to eye.

“Happy Mother’s Day!”
“Thank you!”

Looking at an exquisite gift I felt a combination of blissful goose bumps, and a warm cloak over my spirit.

Holding my breath – her heart, her eyes, her voice, her petite smooth hands clasped the nape of my neck with such a little-big hug. With a skip of a heartbeat I felt such immense love for my baby girl.

Her sweet little cheeks were kindly receiving my soft kisses, what a deep love that I felt at that special moment! My heavenly father entrusted the care of this little one to me.

A springtime of wondrous conversation ensued before Joanne settled into play time.

Instinctively I knew I held something precious. Through blinding tears I looked down once again at the single footprint.

Obviously the teacher had inked Joanne’s foot and helped Joanne to place her foot unto this card stock.

An inner assurance compelled me to think this will mean something more later.
Looking around the room.
“Where to put this!”
“Ahh her baby Album.”
Safely tucked away and almost forgotten except to show friends all my children’s treasures maybe once a year.

Busy living my life, oft times I could see the footprint in my dreams.
The last child left home; more silence, just quiet enough to hear the whisper, “write your story”.

More time passed. Out of the blue with no forethought I went to the office, copied the footprint, reversed it, and placed the two foot prints side by side. Now a pair.

Looking at the set of foot prints I remembered what my mother told me many years previous, “You know, You were born Feet First.” That’s it- that will be a part of my book.

Never resting, time is flying, just maybe I’m ready to Tell my story.

In retrospect I see a simple gesture, an astronomical moment for my child Joanne.

For me as a mom, something tangible to propel my future, catalyst to gaining strength to tell my story; to expose truth.

Yes “We can carve our epitaph
In the lives of our children
Far more than on the
Stone of our death!” [1]

However what about the imprint a child makes in our lives. But who would have imagined that the child, my child, would be the pivotal one, the pinnacle and surreal moment to healing?

Poignant moment to freedom.

Nervousness seemed to dissolve, holding the foot print once again, and all that which paralyzes action. The sequence of events, the threads that lead to courage to expose my personal life to the world.

The opportunity to create awareness. I did not imagine this future was possible. This journey of mine helped me realize, abuse is unnatural. We are created for freedom and a strong self-esteem, a hope and a future.

The icing on the cake, a set of Joanne’s feet is on every single page of my published

book Feet First.
